Modern
Rustic
The goal of this project was to be an extension of the rest of the home. The main level and second floor of this home are a true rustic theme. The clients wanted to carry on the theme but in a lighter cleaner version. We presented them the thought of doing a more clean lined modern rustic basement finish. Some of the amazing features of this basement include a ledgestone panel wall in a white and gray tone. This gave the 85″ television a showstopper backdrop. We then carried the same ledgestone over to the back bar wall where we mounted six custom floating wood shelves.
In most basements we are typically dealing with a needed soffit drop to encompass the HVAC runs. In this project they happen to be directly centered in the design which called for them to be a dramatic feature. We applied a reclaimed rustic standing seam metal that was previously utilized on a barn roof. Then incorporated some industrial flush mount lights to top it off. Next we wanted to be creative on how to address three sets of needed doors.
We decided to make two sets of custom barn doors, one which leads into the workout room and the other that leads into the storage room. We then decided to break those up with a set of custom “Murphy” doors to hide the HVAC and water heater. This allows them to be easily accessible when needed. We wanted to treat the front of the bar in a way that was not only durable but noticeable. We applied metal sheeting to the insets of the bar panels, which we also used on the solid storm door. The storm door was then banded with steel corners to finish off the edges and create a feature instead of an eyesore.
The workout room was not to be left out of the rustic touches, with the custom barn wood bench created out of the same barn wood utilized from the building of the main house. Then the bench was topped off with a corrugated metal wall. The end result of this basement finish was a place where all members of the family can utilize the basement at the same time in multiple functions, or host amazing get together’s with lots of things to do.
